Band class requires student participation in both Marching and Concert Band. Students that participate in football, however, are exempt from the Marching Band part of this class. In this course, emphasis is placed upon building the fundamentals for playing general band literature. A primary objective is that each member of the band acquires an appreciation of music through actual performance. Emphasis is also placed upon advance musicianship and public performance in concert, solo and ensemble work. Marching band practices in the fall during the day and after school. Summer practices are held in the evening and at Band Camp in August. Participation in all public performances is required for continued membership in this class. Honors credit is available for students who attend at least nine private lessons in semester and who perform a jury at the end of each semester.
